Intelleflex developed XC3 Technology® to enable a wide range of new RFID solutions. XC3 Technology is based on ISO/IEC 18000-6:2010 (Manchester BAP) and EPCglobal C1G2 industry standards and extends the capabilities of regular passive RFID far beyond its standard capacity. Sometimes this technology is referred to as "Battery Assisted Passive" (also known as BAP), "Semi-Passive" or "Semi-Active".

Not all Battery Assisted Passive technologies are the same. Class 1 BAP, while offering some functionality beyond standard passive RFID, still has extremely limited range and functionality. Only Intelleflex XC3 Technology tags and readers provide the extended range and capabilities associated with ISO/IEC 18000-6:2010 Class 3 BAP.

Three key benefits of Intelleflex XC3 Technology Class 3 BAP over Class 1 BAP are:
  • 4x the range - up to 300 feet with reliable reads/writes
  • 10x the data transfer speed for significantly faster information downloads
  • 4x the battery life for extended use and lower overall cost

Compare Intelleflex Battery Assisted Passive versus Passive and Active RFID

Businesses interested in tracking the movement, location and/or condition of goods often compare Zigbee-based solutions against RFID-based solutions. Zigbee utilizes a mesh network, meaning that there are designed interdependencies between each node and has limitations in terms of functionality and battery life.

Compare Intelleflex Battery Assisted Passive RFID versus Zigbee

Intelleflex XC3 Technology delivers:

Extended Read Ranges and Functionality:   Read from up to 100 meters away
Increased zone coverage
Temperature sensor support

Increased Read Reliability   Read in challenging real-world environments around liquids, metals, other RF-unfriendly environments and outdoors
Multi-angle, multi-directional read capability
Bulk reads across a larger area, faster bulk reads

Extended Memory   Able to store a significant amount of data on the tag
64 Kbit total, 60 Kbit rewriteable

Increased Security   Tag authentication and locking
Block level locking for data on tag

Patented Single Chip Design   Significantly reduced tag costs compared to active RFID
Allows for smaller form factor tags compared to active RFID
Passive transmission protocol extends battery life compared to active

Standards   Based on ISO/IEC 18000-6:2010 (Manchester BAP) and EPCglobal C1G2 industry standards

Capitalize on the Power of XC3 Technology:
  • Read longer distances between tags and readers, up to 100 meters.
  • Monitor temperatures inside containers, packaging without opening the package.
  • Increase read reliability.
  • Read around challenging materials such as metal, liquid, etc.
  • Store additional information directly on the tag.
  • Increased security to protect the data on the tag.
  • Active RFID capabilities, but at a significantly lower cost.
